There are a number of ways you can use iPads and tablets to include a physical component. My next few posts will look at a variety of apps which can be used this way.
There are apps that use tilting and turning of the iPad/tablet to move or control elements on the screen. These are great for upper limb activity. If a person rests on their elbows at a table, then it produces a hand/wrist activity. If a person holds the device without resting on their elbows then shoulder control is added.
The weight of the device can add a strengthening component. If the weight is too much for a frail older person, then an iPad mini may be more suitable.
"GT Racing 2. The Real Car Experience" (Free. Offers In-App-Purchases) is a car racing game with great graphics. It requires fairly straight forward instruction, using your right hand to control speed, while turning the whole iPad/tablet left or right to turn the car. Compared to some of the more complex car apps, this one is quite simple to use, while being great fun. (However, as I have said in my previous post, if I watch someone else use it, I get motion sick!)
