As well as adding range of movement and strengthening, the iPad can also assist with coordination and balance. A very popular game that can be used on phones or tablets is "Teeter" (free). A small metal ball is rolled around with the aim of getting it into the green hole, while avoiding the black holes. The premise is simple, but the combinations get more tricky at each level!
This relies on good control of the iPad and small, fine adjustments, as well as concentration. This is great for subtle control of upper limb coordination. It is possible to add sitting balance or standing balance to this activity, but if an older person has issues with their balance it is important to get them assessed by a physiotherapist and close supervision may be required if you are using it in this way.
If a person has a tremor, such as with Parkinson disease or due to medication etc, this game may be too tricky. So as usual, do your assessment.
